My sister and I inherited my mom's belongings. We donated\sold the invaluables and kept the valuable stuff. Do I need to claim everything?

For example, we donated a couple items of expensive furniture, all her clothes and kitchen items, etc. However we kept her expensive jewelry. Do I need to itemize everything in my deductions?

Yes, but before you go through all that work, will it matter?

Will you have enough to Itemized and will that amount be more than the Standard Deduction? You can only claim one or the other.

Standard Deduction for 2021 is

Single    12,550

Married Filing Joint    25,100

Head of Household   18,800

This is what I was hoping because it is A LOT but definitely not more than the allowed standard deduction

There would be more than JUST donations to consider for Schedule A.

The amount of the donations would be added to State and Local Taxes (State income tax OR sales tax,  property tax, the amount of  state tax claimed is capped at 10,000)

as well as medical expenses over 7.5% of your Adjusted Gross Income

and home mortgage interest you paid if that matters.

Click here for a little more information about Schedule A if needed.
