My mortgage was transferred from Mr Cooper to Newrez in 2023. Where do I put the mortgage interest paid amounts from the 1098 forms from the two different lenders?

Follow the steps below to enter both 1098-Mortgage Interest Statements.  Your new mortgage holder is considered your primary mortgage holder. 

1. Open your tax return in TurboTax
2. Select Deductions & Credits
3. Scroll down to Mortgage Interest and Refinancing (Form 1098)
4. Scroll through the screens to enter your 1098
5. Enter the 1098 from your newest mortgage holder first and make sure you answer Yes on Is this 1098 the most recent for your loan? screen
6. On the next screen:  Let’s get some details about this loan, select This loan is a refinance of a previous loan; answer the next question and select Continue
7. Continue answering the questions and when you get to the summary screen select Add another 1098.
