My mom quit claimed her house to me in 2017. She passed away Sept 2023. The house is scheduled to close on Friday. Can anyone tell me what the tax rule is for deductions?

Was the house actually yours?

Or did the your mom continue to live there, continue to take responsibility of the house, and if the house was sold prior to death she would have collected the proceeds?

Schedule E: No expenses are deductible because we didn't rent it and used it for ourselves. Do we have to report the expenses?
