Example : you refinanced in May 2011 for a new balance of $145,000 .
That is the debt on the date your mortgage was secured.

Since the new tax laws have limited the amount of Mortgage Interest you can deduct to loans up to 750K, unless the loan was taken before December 16, 2017, TurboTax asks for the amount of secured debt on your mortgage loans.
