HOW DO YOU ENTER THE OREGON RESIDENTIAL ENERGY TAX CREDIT?

In order to (legally) take this Oregon state tax credit, you first need to have the approval of, or a tax certificate statement from, the Oregon Department of Energy.  Here is a link to their main webpage for tax credits:

https://www.oregon.gov/energy/At-Home/Pages/RETC.aspx

Once you have that, then the mechanical data entry in TurboTax is relatively straightforward.  You can simply finish with your federal tax return, in TurboTax, and then begin with your Oregon state return.  Proceed normally through the Oregon state module until you get to the screen asking about (unique) Oregon tax credits.  Then, click the start (or edit) button next to the Residential Energy Credits option, and continue to answer the questions as they are presented by the software.

For a visual aid to this process, please see the several, sequential, screen-capture images attached to this answer beneath the text (simply click the pictures to open).

If you have further questions, encounter any difficulties, or just want to speak with a live tax expert who can walk you through your TurboTax entries (including the ability to screen-share with your computer), please feel free to contact us.  We would be happy to help you (and as a paying customer, the call is free to you).  Here is a link where you can create a support ticket and reach us:
