In form 8833, under "Exceptions from reporting", the first exception mentions students. Does it mean I don't have to file 8833 as a student claiming tax treaty?

Full exception reads: "That a treaty reduces or modifies the taxation of income derived by an individual from dependent personal services, pensions, annuities, social security, and other public pensions, as well as income derived by artists, athletes, students, trainees, or teachers;"

Yes if you are claiming a treaty exemption because you are a student, you will just mark the reduction in income as treaty based and not file 8333.
