In essense, I had no income for the year 2016, but paid mortgage for a year. Can I get some refund?

Worked in a Washington, DC firm till Jan 2, 2016 and but stopped working for the rest of the year. I paid mortgage for my condo in DC throughout the year. Can I get a refund?

If you had no Income and no withholding in 2016, you will not receive a refund.

Only about half of taxpayers benefit from the mortgage interest deduction, mostly the well-off.

Congress will retain it nevertheless.

If  tax was withheld for 2016, you should get it all back.
