I was affected by Hurricane Irma in 2017. My home was extensively damaged and was fixed by my homeowners insurance via settlement. Do i still qualify for a tax credit?

You can file a casualty loss for damages that were not covered by your insurance settlements.

To file a casualty loss in TurboTax Deluxe.

With TurboTax open select the tab Deductions & Credits. Click start on the line Casualties and Thefts.

Follow the prompts when you are asked did you have anything damaged or stolen in 2018 answer yes.  On the following, pages you will be asked if your casualty was from Hurricane Irma.

Continue to follow the screen prompts to enter your casualty loss information.
