I have selected "self" for the HDHP for myself but shows me as family on the 8889 tax form _ Melody

Tax form states something different than what I have selected within the program

If you are married and your spouse has Family HDHP coverage, then you are required to show Family coverage, even if you have Self coverage from your own HDHP policy.

This is a rule by the IRS to ensure that both spouses are covered by the same Family limit (normally $7,000); that is, the $7,000 is the limit for the aggregate of both spouses' contributions, not $7,000 for one spouse and $3,500 for the other.

So there is no problem if you have Self only coverage and your spouse has Family coverage - the 8889 will show your coverage as Family also.

Just wanted to make sure -- but his family plan I think only covers himself and his son
