I donated 150 dollars cash to charity in 2020, would I need a reciept to claim the Cares Act <$300 Charitable Deduction

Charity was my schools education foundation, they didnt give me a letter of acknowledgement.

It would be best to have a receipt for your donation. If you have or can obtain support for this donation, and will otherwise be taking the standard deduction, then report it as follows:

  • Select Donations to Charity in 2020 and select Start/Revisit.
  • Enter your details and eventually come to Done with Charitable Donations.
  • Scroll to the end of the tax breaks summary page and select Wrap up tax breaks. This must be done so that TurboTax recalculates your deductions. Click Continue.
  • Now you will see Charitable Cash Contributions under Cares Act. It will already have your eligible donation listed. Click Continue.

This will give you the extra deduction for any cash donations reported.
