I am a grad student and 2021 is the first year my parents aren't claiming me not their taxes. Should I receive the stimulus payments?

2020 was the last year my parents claimed me as a dependent on their taxes. As of 8/2021, I am a grad student, provide for myself and my FAFSA reflects that. I was completing my 2021 return on TurboTax and it asked if I received my 3rd stimulus. I didn't receive any of the stimulus payments because, according to the information the IRS had, I was a dependent (per 2020 taxes). I answered the TurboTax question, that no, I had not received the 3rd stimulus and it added $$ to my refund. Is this correct? Is there anything else I should be doing on my end?

Yes, that is correct, and no, you don't need to do anything else.

Here is a quote from the IRS FAQs on this topic:

"No longer a dependent: Individuals who were claimed or could be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s tax return for 2019 or 2020 may now be eligible if they can’t be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s tax return for 2021."
