How to prorate mortgage interest for property converted to rental mid-month?

Hi, my rental was 1st offered to rent August 15th, 2022 (converted from secondary home).

I has a mortgage interest payment on August 1st, 2022.

Do I include or exclude this payment in rental property expenses?

mortgage interest is paid in arrears, so the august 1 payment represents July interest

take the Sept 1 mortgage payment and use HALF the interest on that statement to represent the interest for the last half of August.
