How do I go about filling for child tax credit separat from my taxes?

Child tax credit is claimed on your tax return when you file it. There is no way to get it separately. If you have a child under age 17 that you should have claimed on your tax return and didn't, you would have to prepare, print and mail an amended tax return form 1040X to claim the child.
