The TurboTax tool is not specific about whose last year return it is asking about. We were married in 2023. My spouse is qualified for the prior year AMT credit but the tool keeps pulling in my own information from 2022.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
If you are using your TurboTax account, rather than your spouses, your TurboTax account won't have any 2022 information concerning your spouse.
Are you able to over-ride the amounts listed on the screens?
You can use your spouse's 2022 tax return to find the numbers you need.
Thanks for the quick reply! I'm able to override the numbers and choices. My spouse had neither of "Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet" and "Schedule D Tax Worksheet" so I picked "Neither" to the question "Tell us if you had either of these worksheets" about capital gains, despite that it auto-populated the "Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Tax Worksheet" choice from my 2022 return (we both filed single in 2022, so I figured we should stick with his return). However, the tool later complains:
Form 8801: Question A3 should not be checked since there are information from prior year Schedule D Tax Worksheet
and I noticed the Form 8801 has my SSN (with both our names).
How can I go about this?
