Home energy tax credit

Using turbotax premier, CD version for mac. Have entered what we spent for home energy upgrades in 2018 (insulation, doors, windows, roof). Turbotax then asks if we got any home energy tax credits in prior years. First question is - why is it asking, it has the prior years information when our 2017 return was imported. In fact, we did take a $500 home energy credit in 2017. So I clicked yes, Turbotax brings up a form to fill in the credit amount for the years 2006 through 2016, no 2017. We have a massive change to the tax code, do improvements taken in 2017 not count, or is this a bug in the program or something else?

Home energy tax credit

There are two credits.  The credit for alternative energy sources (solar, geothermal, wind) is still available and is 30% of the installed cost.

The other credit for certain energy efficient appliances, windows, doors and insulation, expired at the end of 2017 and has not been renewed.  It was left in the program in case Congress reinstated it, but that seems unlikely to happen.  That credit also has (or had) a $500 lifetime maximum.
