Foreign Tax Credit - No place to enter the amount of foreign tax paid

There is no entry where one puts in the amount of foreign tax paid that I can find. I want to apply a credit and category of income is resourced by treaty for 1099-INT. I have deleted the 1099-INT and DIV and reentered. I have tried different browsers and spoken with 3 agents at TT. The last one said that there way no place to put in the taxes paid and to submit the forms separately??? there would be no way then to calculate the taxes.

I do not want to put the foreign taxes paid on the 1099-INT form itself since that is not what my form says.

Thanks for any help.

Foreign Tax Credit - No place to enter the amount of foreign tax paid

Foreign taxes are super complicated. We might be able to help you in this volunteer forum, but more info would be helpful.

What form do you have that says not to put the income/tax paid on a 1099-div?

Are you a US resident or are you living overseas? (If living overseas what country?)

Is the foreign income from mutual funds?

How large are the amounts involved here? (ballpark, $100, $1k, $20k) Both foreign tax and foreign income.

If you enter the amount on the 1099-DIV can you adjust category in the Form 1116 interview or form?

Be sure you need to use the resource by treaty category. It is super complicated. See the 1116 instructions page 5. https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/i1116--2020.pdf

Also if the 1099-DIV is from a mutual fund usually you can just use RIC as the country and your life is simpler.
