Do I need to NJ Tax Return?

I used to be a resident of NJ - 2013-2020.

I have since moved out of NJ and the USA - and Spent all of 2023 (365 Days) Outside the USA (and NJ).

(1) I an early retiree (under 60 - so don't collect Social Security).

(2) My Income sources are Stocks Sales, Interest and Dividends from my US Brokerage firm

(3) I Do NOT own or Rent any Property in NJ (or elsewhere in the US)

(4) Just have a friend's Home address (in NJ) to get any US Postal mail

While I will file FED returns, do I need to file an NJ Tax return on account of having just a friend's home address for my Postal Mail in NJ?

Advice is much appreciated.

Thank you

Do I need to NJ Tax Return?

No, you do not need to file a New Jersey tax return since you do not live in New Jersey nor receive any income from the state.

The mailing address on your tax return should be the address you want the IRS to use in case they have to send you a letter or a check.

But in the Personal Info section of TurboTax, be sure to enter you State of Residence as "Foreign or U.S. Possession".  It's the last choice in the State of Residence drop-down window.
