CTC
My son turned 17 this year, I have received the CTC for him already this month. Will I need to pay it back on my taxes next year? I thought you didn't get the CTC on you taxes once they turn 17.

Hi Marwilli,
I hope that you are doing well today. I know you are concern about having to repay back the advance CTC payments because your son turned 17 this year. Rest assure you are okay. The requirement for your son to qualify for the advance CTC payments is he does not turn 18 before January 1, 2022. I hope my response eases your mind.

Hey Marwilli,
To expand on Judyth's excellent answer, I wanted to note that there is a special provision in the law for 2021 only that 17 years olds do qualify for Child Tax Credit this year. Again, this is a change only for 2021 - otherwise, you are correct that they are generally too old to qualify.
