credit for child and dependent care expenses

In comparing my 2023 return against my 2022 return I’ve noticed I was able to get a $600 credit for child and dependent care expenses from form 2441, line 11 in 2022, I have one child. For 2023 I don’t have that credit.  My dependent care expenses are greater in 2023.  The only thing different is that in 2023 I contributed $5,000 to a flexible spending account that I used for child care my childcare expenses in 2023 which were $20,711.  Would that change the credit?

Yes, your FSA covered your child care deduction for 2023.

You can only claim a maximum of $3,000 of expenses per child, and the credit is up to 35% of that.

You may want to review that section again.  You should still have a Form 2441 showing the calculations.
