The amounts that you contributed to your Health Savings
Account (HSA) using after-tax funds and not through your employer are entered
in the Deductions and Credits
section of your return.
Use these steps to go directly to that section of your return:
On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)
This opens a box where you can type in “hsa” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)
The search results will give you an option to “Jump to hsa”
- Click on the blue “Jump to hsa” link and enter your information
After you go through the first couple of screens in this
section, there will be a page titled “Let’s
enter your HSA contributions” which will show any amounts that were
included on your W-2 along with a box to enter Any contributions you personally made.
Fill in that box with the amount that you contributed. Then continue the section to answer the
remaining questions about the HSA and your eligibility to make a contribution.
