Charitable Deduction for COVID cancelled Air Fare

I purchased a ticket to fly to do charitable work, but the trip was cancelled due to COVID cancelling the trip.  I was never refunded for the airfare paid for the tickets (over $1000) or able to use vouchers for any other purpose that are expiring this year.  Can I still deduct this a charity since that was its intended purpose?

Charitable Deduction for COVID cancelled Air Fare

It depends.

You would need to obtain a written acknowledgement from the organization to deduct the transportation expenses.  Please see the link below for additional information of what is required in order to be able to deduct it as a charitable deduction.

Charitable contribution for unreimbursed expenses

If you do not have the written acknowledgement, you would not be able to deduct it as such.
