Charitable Carryover

Never having considered anything as a carryover before I am probably using incorrect terminology; please be patient.

When I sold an old car it gave me a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to give large $11,000 donation to a charity I support. Even this large of contribution combined with others still didn't get me over the standard deduction so, in-effect, this donation was "ignored" as it made no difference whatsoever on my tax return.

Am I allowed to use an "ignored" donation like this as a "carryover" contribution this year, or is it allowable only when it is rejected or limited due to limits based on a percentage of my AGI?

TurboTax did not bring it forward from 2022 to 2023.

Charitable Carryover

Only deductions not allowed due to being greater than the allowed AGI limit can be carried over. See Publication 526 (2023), Charitable Contributions.
