Can you deduct a portion of your phone if it was used for work

Yes, you can deduct the "business" portion of your phone. The expense must be necessary and common in your profession.

As an employee, the expenses are deducted as Job-Related Expenses in TurboTax.  Only the amount over 2% of your Adjusted Gross Income and the expenses are part of your itemized deductions.

Job-related expenses are located in:

  1. Federal Taxes
  2. Deductions & Credits (you may have to select See all tax breaks)
  3. Employment Expenses
  4. Job-Related Expenses

For more information, please select IRS publication 529, chapter 2.
