Can I deduct my personal phone and computer I used for a job in 2017?

Yes, as an employee, you may be able to deduct certain unreimbursed expenses that the IRS considers "ordinary and necessary" to do your job.

If the computer is used exclusively for business/job, you will be able to include the cost of the computer as a job related expense. To be able to include the correct amount for the value of the computer, you will need to consider the current Fair Market Value (FMV).  If the computer's FMV has decreased in value between the time you bought it and the time it was used exclusively for work,  the FMV (if lower than cost) of the computer at the time you started using it for business will be deducted (versus the full value).

Job expenses are deductible miscellaneous expenses that are subject to a 2% AGI limitation and are only deductible if you itemize.
