Can I assume the ad valorem tax and registration fee are deductible? What about mailing fee and service fee?

Yes, the Vehicle Registration Fee you paid based on your vehicle's value is deductible for Kentucky.  You can’t deduct the total amount you paid, only the portion of the fee that’s based on your vehicle’s value.

Mailing fees and service fees are not deductible unless for a business expense.

Follow these directions to enter the deduction:

1. With your return open, search for car registration inside your program.
2. Select the Jump to link at the top of your search results.
3. Answer Yes to Did you pay any car registration fees in 2023? and then enter them on the next screen.
