You may have input a Form 1099-DIV with an entry in Box 7, Foreign tax paid.
It's not unusual for a mutual fund you've invested in to report an amount in Box 7. If TurboTax wants you to upgrade to claim a credit for the foreign tax paid, and the tax paid amount is less than the upgrade fee, you can delete the amount in Box 7.
To delete Box 7 information from Form 1099-DIV in TurboTax Online:
- Select Tax Home in the left pane
- On the Hi, let's keep working on your taxes! screen, select the dropdown to the right of Income & Expenses
- Select Start, Pick up where you left off or Review/Edit, as appropriate
- Scroll down and select the dropdown to the right of Investments & Savings
- Select Start or Revisit to the right of Dividends on 1099-DIV
- Select Yes on the Did you receive any investment income? screen, then select Continue
- If you see either the Your investments & savings or Here's your 1099-DIV info screen, select Add investments or Add another 1099-DIV as appropriate, then select Continue
- When you get to the appropriate screen, delete the Box 7 entry
