I received a 1099C Form from an auto loan with my ex husband. In the divorce, my ex got the vehicle and was supposed to responsible for the payments. Loan was got in 2018, divorce final in 2019, and debt discharged in 2023. I called the lender the loan was through, and my ex husband and I both received the 1099C for the same amount, it wasn't split between us. Do my ex and I both have to claim this on our taxes? Or just my ex? I didn't have access to the vehicle, and he got it and the responsibility in the divorce. In WV if that helps. Also, got remarried 12/2023. Filing married filing together.

If your divorce decree states that your ex-husband got the vehicle and was responsible for payments, you could send a copy of that to the lender.
In any case, enter the 1099-C in the interview in TurboTax. It may not affect your return as much as you think.
