Why do I have to pay the state of New Jersey, Texas?

Don’t understand I’m finishing up my taxes now it says I have to pay the state of New Jersey 400 and change in taxes why I only made 13,000 last year

If you live or work in NJ, you use NJ services and your income is high enough that you must file a return and pay taxes. It sounds like your employer did not withhold enough from your paychecks. You may want to change your w4 at work to have more withheld.
