I just bought VA State for 2019 and need to file 763 - Nonresident return. How do I get the 763 "interview"? The income is from a Virginia VK-1 Pass-Through Entity (I am a full-time resident of MD with no other VA income.) TurboTax keeps acting like I want to file 763-S, which is the wrong form. I can "zoom" to 763 but I am not allowed to edit key info.
Can you actually edit/file 763 or should I try and get a refund? (Yeah, I know, good luck with that!)
Bill

The data in your State of Virginia return is populated by the data you enter for your Federal Return. You will need to enter your K-1 data into TurboTax by following these steps, after it is entered, it will flow through to your Form 763.

Okay - that helps. I had already entered the K-1 info but the Turbotax interview keeps selecting the wrong form (763S-SP) instead of the correct one (Form 763) and therefore the information was not transferred. I figured out that I can overwrite the interview by going to the Info Worksheet and selecting 763 and then the info transfers.
However - One last problem and I think I'm done. I am filing this return because the S-Corp (VA Corp) files a Form 502 VK-1 Pass Through Entity Return. How do I enter the amount withheld on 963 lines 19a and 19b because it looks to me that these are supposed to be "transfer" entries and not "user" entries. The PTE withholding only appears on VK-1 and not the S-Corp K-1. Thanks for your help.
The information for your Form 763 lines 19a and 19b, income tax withheld will also come from data that you entered previously into TurboTax.
You will only receive a "Form VK-1" if there are differences between what is reported on your Federal K-1(income, deductions and credits) and what the State of Virginia allows. These differences, if any, are entered in the state tax interview for VA.
Hi Regina - Thanks for working with me on this.
I found the problem. I missed the instruction that says "If you earned VA income other than salary..., select NONE of the above. " I had been selecting "Bill lived in Maryland all year" With the correct response, I am now able to enter the VK-1 info. That's what happens when you read the responses but not the instructions! Thanks again for your help.
I seem to be having this same issue for filing 2020 VA Non-Resident taxes related to my wife's law firm income attributed to her from their Richmond office. She received the Schedule VK-1 but I can never seem to get prompted by the VA interview process to enter the numbers.
We are MD residents and the majority of her income is earned in MD. All of my income is earned in MD.
I do not see the same instructions as in 2019 to select "none of the above" to deal with non wage income and even if I do, I do not get prompted.
Any thoughts?
I'm wondering if you were able to get through that. I'm selecting "none of the above", but never get prompted for PTE witholding amount, no 763 is formed and in government / turbotax worksheets I see that there is no withholding info for my wife who has an S corp in VA while we are MD residents.
We used married, filing jointly for federal return, and for VA, which is non-resident state for us, I select option that I lived in MD the whole year, then none of the above for my wife, which results into prompting me for the refund amount and no prompt for VK-1 PTE withholding for my wife. If I don't select any options for myself, and none of the above for my wife, then I'm getting prompted for VK-1 data, but not for my refund for my withholding, which was withheld from my taxes by mistake. Not sure if I can get to separate interviews for my wife and myself as I might need to file 763-S while filing 763 for her, not sure if refund for me can be requested on combined 763.
Our situation was different in that my wife and I were both receiving income from the same S Corp. I'm not sure if the solution in my 3/23/20 message works if one person has VA income and the other does not.
