I live in MA, but my employer erroneously withheld taxes for MD for part of the year. I have completed the MD non-resident tax form. I am working on the MA resident tax form and the section on "Taxes paid to another state" is confusing - please help.
Other jurisdiction: Taxes paid to "Maryland (MD)"
Income taxed by Maryland
a) Enter the total amount of 5% income on which you paid taxes to Maryland
b) Enter the actual tax owed from the other state tax return for the income reported in both states.

When income in taxed in two states, there is usually a credit (on the resident return) for the tax paid to the non-resident state.
HOWEVER it does not sound like you are in this situation because you say the Maryland tax was withheld in error.
IF the Maryland tax was withheld in error, and you are getting the Maryland Tax (that was withheld) ALL refunded, there is no taxes paid to another state.
Taxes withheld are not the same as taxes paid.
If this is not the case, and you are having to pay Maryland (as a tax payment due or as tax withheld not refunded) please continue the question and please provide more information.
