Tax exempt interest from California sources of $xxxxx transferred from your federal tax return.

Turbotax has this statement in the Subject box above when I worked on the CA return, which is followed  with a question: "Is any of this interest from funds with less than 50% of their assets invested in California and US obligations?

I looked at all my 1099-INTs from various financial institutes and could not figure out how the amount $xxxxx was arrived at.  I need to determine which investments contribute to the amount and which of them are  qualified for the 50% rule.  Is there a worksheet containing the information?

Thanks!

Your financial institution should have included accompanying statements with your Forms 1099-INT and other information returns if there was additional information needed to prepare your return beyond what is shown on the forms.

If you don't have any information that indicates that there was interest from non-California and US funds included in the total, assume that there wasn't, and you can answer the question "no"; i.e., 50% or more was invested in California and US obligations.
