Turbo Tax has me locked into an estimated state sales tax deduction which is less than my actual sales tax. How do I get out of this locked status to report my sales tax?

Why was I given an estimated state sales tax deduction instead of being able to report actual sales tax paid?

You add to the estimated sales tax that TurboTax calculates by adding amounts for "major purchase" items such as vehicles.  This is done within the interview at Deductions & Credits>>Estimates and Other Taxes Paid>>Sales Tax.

When you get into the Sales Tax page (which can be tricky in itself), it will ask you if you want to "enter all your receipts". You can deduct any amounts for which you have receipts.

You don't need a major purchase.
