I came across what appears to be a mistake in how TurboTax calculates tax burden for DC filers. For married couples filing separately on the same D-40 form and taking the standard deduction, TurboTax appears to apply the entirety of the standard deduction to one filer without accounting for which partner is hit with the higher marginal tax rate (which would be easy) or distributing the deduction to minimize tax burden (which I assume would be harder).
My wife finally convinced me to try TurboTax this year. Not just because of this but because of *spreads arms across both monitors* all of this, I swear it will be the last time.
