My 2022 tax return might have an error

Hello,

I invested in a restaurant that ended up closing down during COVID.  So I have big losses I claimed on my tax.  It give me a negative gross income on my tax return but I still owed money instead of getting a refund.  Can I please have someone review to see if there was an error and an amended tax return is needed before I file my 2023 taxes?  Thank you.

My 2022 tax return might have an error

We can't review your tax return. I suggest you look on line 15 of your Form 1040 in 2022. That will list your taxable income. If your losses were more than your income then your taxable income would likely be $0. If not, then look on the lines above line 15 to identify what income is listed on your tax return. If anything looks incorrect, investigate to find the problem.

If your taxable income on line 15 is $0 but you still owed taxes, then look on line 17 to see if there are other taxes you may have been subject to. You will find them listed on schedule 2 of your Form 1040. You may have had to pay non-income taxes.
