My lease when I moved from Texas to NYC began mid-August, but I did not officially transfer offices for my job officially until September 1st. I recently filed and was told that I owed some to Federal and quite a bit to NY. When I tried entering my move in date, it still says that I owe the total amount no matter what date I put. I was wondering if I am filing right or if I should request my company to provide a W2 for Texas as well.

Were you working remotely for the same NY employer when you were still living in Texas? If so, did you physically perform any work in NY when you were still a resident of Texas?
If your answer is Yes to these questions, then your income prior to the move might be subject to NY income tax due to NY's "convenience of the employer" rule.
The NY employer has multiple office location so I was coded to the Texas office. No work was done physically in NYC when I was in Texas

If that's the case, then only the income you earned after becoming a New York resident is taxable by New York. You need to file a part-year resident tax return for NY, to which you allocate only the income you earned as a New York resident.

You became a New York resident for tax purposes on the day you began living there with the intent of making it your new primary home (your domicile in tax terminology).
