In 2022 we moved from CO to eastern KS. My wife works for the federal reserve out of KC MO but we live in Topeka KS. The MO tax forms state that any income earned from remote work from a MO employer is not taxable. I had filed the 2022 federal and multi-state taxes late and paid the taxes, penalties and interest and while doing the 2023 taxes I noticed that my wifes W2 contained withholding from MO I asked her if there was something missing from her 2022 W2 and there was a second page missing that showed the withholding from MO for 2022 and that we had not even filed a state return for MO for 2022. With this new information I thought I should amend our federal return to include the missing page of the W2 which showed the MO withholding, shich did not change the federal return results, but would require that I file a MO state return. Now this brings me to the problem no matter how I enter the information into the Turbo Tax program the program is still assessing a pro-rated tax on the remote income based on the ratio of the federal AGI. How is this possible when the MO website and the MO tax forms clearly state that remote income is not taxable? Also how does my retirement income from the state of CO even come into play in this calculation? Something seems amiss here.

If neither you nor your wife lived in or physically worked in MO during the entire tax year, then your work income is not taxable by the State of Missouri.
If MO taxes were mistakenly withheld from your pay, then you must file a non-resident MO tax return, on which you allocate zero income to MO, in order to obtain a refund of the incorrect withholdings.
