Military person lives in NJ but stationed in Massachusetts for 3 months. Wife and son live in Mass for 6 months. Do they need to file Massachusetts State Tax return?

Wife didn't work or receive any income.

No, if there was no non-military income earned then there is no need to file a Mass return if your Home of Record is NJ. If your wife and son did not earn income, they do not need to file either.
