massachusetts alimony

You can deduct alimony paid to a former spouse as long the divorce or separation agreement is executed by December 31, 2018.

For Massachusetts tax purposes, alimony continues to be deductible by the paying spouse and counted as income for the receiving spouse.

Enter the amount Paid on your federal return:

  1. Sign in and open or continue your return.
  2. Go to Federal Taxes
  3. Search for alimony paid.
  4. Select the Jump to link in the search results.
  5. Answer Yes on the Did you pay alimony to a former spouse in 2021? screen and follow the onscreen instructions.

The amount paid will show on MA Schedule Y other deductions.
