Live in WA, remote work to California employer

Hello,

I live in WA and recently offered a job from one California PUD employer for a remote work from home job.

Do I still have to pay California taxes since I live in WA?

No, if you are a regular W-2 employee. Yes, if you are a self employed individual, including a "contract employee".

If all your work is actually (physically) performed in your state of residency and you never physically work in any other state, then you would have NO "other state income." Currently, the only exception to that is California.  Due to a 2019 court ruling in CA, if you are a sole proprietor and you provide services to a client located in CA, that income is taxable by CA - even if you never set foot in California.

Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it. So basically if the job is offered as regular full time employee , no CA tax will be imposed.

A. Yes.  But, you should discuss the issue with your employer so that they do not mistakenly withhold CA tax.
