If you live (reside) in Maryland, then you will need to file a resident return for Maryland (Maryland Resident Income Tax Form 502). It is possible to file a joint federal return and then file separately for Maryland, but your spouse will need to determine if that is possible for Vermont (file federal jointly and Vermont separately). Or you can file separately for both federal and Maryland and then your spouse would file both federal and Vermont separately as well.
