I received two new york state star rebate checks in 2016, one for 2015 and one for 2016. do I combine the total of the two checks on my taxes?

I got my check for 2015 in January 2016 and I received my check for 2016 in November of 2016.

Yes, since you received both in 2016, you can add them together and make one entry.
