No one that provides answers in Community will have access or be able to see your tax return in order to give you a definite reason that you owe state taxes for 2020.

Since you usually receive a refund for your state tax, it is possible that some state tax withholdings were not entered as part of your income documents. Go back to the income section of your return and review all of your entries that may have state taxes withheld. Pay close attention to W-2s or Form 1099-R and check the state tax section.

Also, if you made state estimated payments, be sure that those have been entered into your return as well.
