I don't know if I am supposed check bank account interest. How do I know if it applies to me?

Did you have a bank account that paid interest (savings account or checking account that pays interest) in 2017? If so check yes. If you got more than $10 of interest the bank will send you a 1099-INT. Even if you had less than $10 of interest you still have to report it, if you received any.
