Yes, this error comes up sometimes when the payer on a 1099-DIV is more than 29 characters long.

To fix this:

  1. Sign in to your TurboTax account.
  2. Select Wages & Income, then Edit.
  3. Scroll down to Investments and Savings (1099-B, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-K, Crypto), select Start or Revisit to the right.
  4. Select the down arrow to the right of the 1099-DIV, then Edit.
  5. Shorten the name in the first box. You can use just the broker name, or use abbreviations to shorten the name. For example, if the 1099-DIV says "Fidelity Investments for GM employee stock plans Institutional Investments" enter just "Fidelity".
  6. Select Continue until you get back to Let’s finish pulling in your investment income.
  7. Select Review from the left side menu.
  8. Select Check my return.
  9. Address any details that come up.
  10. Once your return is clear of details, Continue through the screens until you submit your return for e-file.
