Can I leave the state tax debit date field blank so that they can perform the debit as soon as they process my state return?

No - You can't leave the field blank. If you want the funds debited as soon as your return is processed, enter the date you think you are going to e-filed the return [today's date if you're going to e-file today]

You can enter any date before the due date of the return.
