Did your employer withhold taxes for the both states ? 

If this is the case and you are the resident of only one state you can file a return for two states one as resident and one as non-resident. 

If your employer only withheld taxes from one state and that is your state of residency. You only need to file state return for that state.

How do I remove the unneeded state? Software wants to efile that one too.
