Why, when I try to enter a 1099-Misc does the program put me into an infinite loop asking where it should be applied to my taxes?

I have tried to enter a 1099-Misc form in my income, but the software keeps sending me through a loop to enter the information, trying to figure out where it should be applied. There is no option for selecting any other options which would cause this loop to end.

The program seems to be treating this as Self-Employment income.

If this is NOT Self-Employment income, please make sure you are entering this as a 1099-MISC and NOT a 1099-NEC.

Please review your answers to the interview questions to indicate that this is not Self-Employment (such as "not for work like my job", not received year after year)

If you are still having issues, please continue the question, but add some clarifying information such as what the 1099-MISC is reporting, and how often you get this payment.

The specific Error is "Form Not Reported: Your 1099-misc shows $xxx on line 2, but this income is not reported on another form or schedule."

I have deleted and re-entered the form twice, and tried to review it by setting it to Schedule C, but the error persists. In review, it asked me to choose a schedule to assign this to, but the indicated field did not exist, and the radio buttons for choosing a schedule have had no effect.

You need to enter the 1099-MISC income in a different location.  Based on the information that you have provided it seems like the system bypassed some pretty important questions when you entered your form.

First, delete the 1099-MISC that you already entered.  You'll need to enter the 1099-MISC directly through the 'Wage & Income' section of TurboTax.

Scroll down til you reach the section called '1099-MISC and Other Common Income'.  Then click on the 1099-MISC button and go through each question carefully.  The wizard will assign the 1099-MISC to other income or to the appropriate form after you have answered all of the questions.

Mine is doing the same thing. I've done everything suggested here and it's just a loop saying "Your FORM 1099-MISC from XXX shows $XXX on line 2, but this income is not reported on another form or schedule."

I've deleted the old and started over 5 times. Nothing changes.

What was the source of the income shown on Form 1099-MISC? If it's from self-employment, you can enter this under the Schedule C business directly rather than linking the entry. If it's other income (hobby or one-time gig), try entering the information under Less Common Income >> Miscellaneous Income. Where you enter the income isn't as important as reporting all your income on your return.

I am stuck on this issue as well.  I also have deleted the 1099-MISC several times.  Rekeyed it directly into the 1099-MISC section on the Income page.  Tried everything I can find to click/change to get TurboTax to proceed.

Mine is an Oil & Gas Royalty so I chose "Royalty Investment Income from a natural resource" as the source.

I looked under the "Other Taxable Income" section and the directions specifically say "Do not enter income reported on Form 1099-MISC".  This is mind boggling!

If this is Royalty Income, you must establish a Schedule E FIRST so that the income on the 1099-MISC can flow to Schedule E (rentals and royalties).

If using Home and Business, select Rental Property and Royalties under the Business Tab

If using Premier, select Rental Property and Royalties under Wages & Income

That was it.  I followed the steps and got through it.  Thank you very much.  That was confusing.

I'm having the same issue when trying to enter self-employment business income and expenses. After the 1099-NEC, the next screen asks "Any 1099-MISC Income?"  Having none, I select No and then Continue. The next screen asks "Did you get a 1099-K?"  I select NO and the software reverts back to "Any 1099-MISC Income?" It's stuck in this loop. There's a glitch with the software. I suppose I can fill out the Sch-C form but then why have the software.

I am using the 2023 Premier Edition desktop for Windows and found this workaround.

When the program asks if you received a Form 1099-K answer Yes.  On the 1099-K enter any name for the Payer, any 9 digits for the Payer ID and then enter $1 in box 1a.  Click on Continue and click on Done.

This will take you back to the Form 1099-MISC question and  answer NO.  Click on Continue.

You will now be back at the Form 1099-K Summary screen.  Click on the BACK button.  You can now continue the interview for the Schedule C.

Same issue using Advantage Deluxe 2023 DISC. Entered info for 1099-NEC. No problem. After1099-NEC, it asks any 1099-MISCs? Answered no. Then, any 1099-Ks? Answered no. Logically, I should be moved to the next topic, but no. It's back to the 1099-K and -MISC questions ... forever. Definitely a program flaw. Didn't have this issue earlier this year before extension of time to file.
