On a trial basis

My wife just started making handmade jewelry for sale. We'll attempt to sell it on a trial basis to see it how successful the venture will be, beginning with a booth at a festival. In order to attract customers, she's willing to try the Square app for card purchases. My question is: is a Tax ID required in this instance? Does the app require a tax ID number?
