Needs Review

Why does "Needs review" come up in the Business Income and Expenses Section, when there is nothing that needs reviewed? I can go through everything else and it says there are no errors. Will my return be accepted if I e-file with it still saying "need review"?

Yes.  Go ahead and scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Continue.   The Needs Review message will NOT prevent e-file.   Before you file the return(s), TurboTax will take you through a Complete Check and will flag any errors that will prevent e-filing then.  If there are any errors on the return, the Complete Check in the final review section will prompt you to make changes before submitting the return(s).

Will it affect how long it take to get the return?

No, not at all.    If the error is real, you will know before you file.

Thank you! Is there an update in the works to fix this? Trying to decide if I should just wait it out to make sure there are no problems this year, or next.

It's possible the "needs review" message was resolved by a recent update. TurboTax updates are released on Friday nights after midnight. If you're using TurboTax Online, the updates are automatic. With TurboTax for Desktop, allow the program to run updates when you open the program. You might check your return to see if the message remains.

Either way, as DawnC said, the final review will alert you to any issues that might prevent you from successfully e-filing your return.

The "Needs Review" just won't go away.
Clicking on "Review" does nothing and loads the same page.
Already tried in Google Chrome & Microsoft Edge with same issue.

After you click review, it should take you to Review your sales transaction.  Click the edit icon next to the box that the status is needs review.  You will need to complete this step for all transactions that need review to clear the status.  See screenshot below:

I entered my expenses, and it states, "Needs Review." The expenses entered do not show up on the deductions page. This is a huge concern. This page compares the deductions for 2023 and 2024. The deductions for 2024 are not stated. Please let me know when this will be fixed.

Thanks!

Please clarify which version of TurboTax you are using: Online or Desktop? Windows or Mac? If Online, which browser?

We'd like to research experience in detail. It would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2024" file to test this issue further.

If you would be willing to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information, please follow these instructions:

In TurboTax Desktop, open your return and go to Online in the TurboTax header. (On a Mac computer, choose Share or Help.)

  1. Choose Send Tax File to Agent.
  2. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is.  Click Send on this screen and wait for the Token number to appear.
  3. Reply to this thread with a screenshot your Token number (this avoids Community filters for numbers with a dash) and tag (@) the Expert requesting the token from you.
  4. Please include any States that are part of your return - this is VERY important.

If we are able to determine the cause, we'll reply here and provide you with a resolution.

There's several threads going now,  with many people encountering  this issue.

The Turbo tax employees have to be aware of this by now because they're responding on the threads???

Frustrating that TT isnt fixing this issue what with it affecting many people

This experience has been reported to our development team and should be resolved with the update scheduled for Friday March 7, 2025. Because updates are released after business hours Pacific time, we recommend waiting until the day after to run Review again.

Note that TurboTax Online is automatically updated after midnight on form release dates. TurboTax for Desktop is updated when you first open the program.
