So I needed to enter a single 1099-NEC for a project for a former employer. Now all of a sudden I'm an independent contractor and have hit the Turbo Tax paywall and have to pay an additional $129.00?
You said former employer. Did they have behavior and financial control or did you work when you want and use your own tools/equipment? If so, you can request a W-2. If not, then yes, you would need to upgrade to enter the 1099-NEC.
